PRICING STRATEGY

The pricing of Ralph Lauren's clothing is just about the same as its competitors of Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci, etc. You can find different brands within Ralph Lauren ranging from various prices like Purple Label or Black Label Ralph Lauren is priced much more expensive comparing to Gucci mainly. The pricing scale is about $299-$2,500 while regular Polo Ralph Lauren ranges from 439-$199, similar to Tommy Hilfiger. And they have certain customers that will only like one or the other or some who prefer both, so that is their advantage over its competition. The Purple Label and Black Label brands of Ralph Lauren does not consist of the polo logo on the clothing, just consist of a much more comfortable, relaxing fabric of clothing.

100% PROCEEDS GOES TO HAITI

We all are familiar with the devastating incident that happened in Haiti with the earthquake. Currently, if you visit polo.com, Ralph Lauren is offering a donation option, where if you purchase any of the Haiti Relief Polo clothing then 100% of the proceeds will be donated to United Way for the Haiti Disaster Fund for the rebuilding of the Haiti community.

FORMS OF BUSINESS OWNERSHIP

Currently Ralph Lauren is the founder and owner of the Polo Company, along with his wife and i hope he has no intentions on selling the company because personally I'm a big fan of the clothing line and I just feel that it may lose some sense of style and quality if he decides to sell out. He also has an RL Restaurant, so he didn't just stop with the clothing line, he is branching off into other ventures as well.

BUSINESS PLAN

In the late 1970s, Polo began an advertising method that would basically become the spectrum of the American experience. The customers could go into a Polo Ralph Lauren store and get an article for men, women, or the children by this time. And that was very rare to have a clothing line that catered to the entire family. He was determined to fulfill his customers' needs in every way that he felt was missing and adding some style and longevity at the same time. Because many clothing lines come in one season and usually not in style when the next season comes, so Polo does give you some longevity as far as style and quality of the product.

With the world wide web being introduced in 1991, it took American awhile to catch on to the technology change, but almost a decade later Ralph Lauren launced polo.com in order to stay young and refreshed and now today, as for myself, i rarely go into the stores to shop because online shopping is much more convenient.

STRATEGIC PLAN

Ralph is not a fashion person, in fact he's anti-fashion, he claims it is too transient, and that he is into longevity, timelessness, and style. He knew that his customers always wanted a change, but didn't know how to do it. He states that his clothes are and always will be a vision of what he believes in because his clothes are his stories of life, not just clothes.

His wife, on the other hand is a very fashionable woman with great style and that is how the women's line of Polo became about in 1971, introducing 24 different colors in the mesh classic fit Polo shirts which instantly became an American classic.

INSIDE THE CREATIVE MINDS OF THE ENTREPRENEUR

Ralph Lauren is the first to merge the classic American style with the refinement European style. He never went to a fashion school, he was just a young guy with style (like myself), he just followed his instincts. He never imagined Polo to be what it is today. He wanted to give his customers a sense of having the style and finesse that he always had.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Ralph Lauren establishes the Polo label with an instant successful line of ties, because they didn't want everyone to seem as if they were corporate people and they felt that a tie expressed a man's quality, taste, and style. Ralph names his line after a sport that symbolizes a world of discreet elegance and classic style: POLO
